I listened to the Trump inauguration speech. Much of what he says excites me enormously. Judging by his previous performance, I think he has a good possibility of carrying out his promises.
His promise to take back the Panama Canal takes some thought regarding the position of the vault and all of our (yours and ours) assets in terms of safety.
Should we be worried about an American invasion? Should we be worried about America taking control of the entire Canal Zone?
I think that America, being worried about the position in which it finds itself is not irrational.
The world appears to be moving into an isolationist phase. America has to assure itself of its military and trade routes as well as its security situation. Having ignored the security and Panama government relationships between America and Panama has allowed China to infiltrate the Panama Canal operations and the Panama government. America now has to move quickly and forcefully to protect itself.
Trump is totally aware of the risk China and the “corrupt” local administration of the canal poses to America.
Chinese control of both ends of the canal risks American ships, commercial and military, not being able to utilize the passageway, much to America’s detriment.
Because of the obstructive response to Trump’s threats from the Panamanian government, Trump is forced to up the ante in order to force negotiation. Note no mention of Canada or Greenland, both of which I believe are negotiating with the American administration.
Do I believe we as a company or you or us personally, as far as our assets are concerned are at risk?
Emphatically no. I believe that Trump has so many tools in order to ‘encourage’ Panama to reassess its situation, that no military or occupational steps need to be taken by the US.
Trump will ‘encourage’ cooperation. Priorities in my opinion are not necessarily pecuniary. I think Panamanian or American control of both ends of the canal would go a long way to placating him. Perhaps a volume-based discount on the use of the canal may placate him.
Real negotiations would calm the situation. A mutually satisfactory outcome is most likely.
None of these measures would affect the security of our vault.
We have analyzed potential outcomes, and we are still of the opinion that as the geopolitical situation stands now, Panama remains one of the best locations to store assets.

BITCOIN AND GOLD
Buy bitcoin versus gold (15 January 2025). Mind the gap. Bitcoin outperforms gold.

ETHUSD: Out 10 December 2024: A spike low indicates a reversal. Indicators still pointing down. No buy yet.

BTCUSD: Buy, 20250115. Bitcoin and the Nasdaq (Cyan), have a similar trajectory. Should there be more money printing which I expect, expect bitcoin and the Nasdaq to both do better. This appears to be borne out.

GOLD AND SILVER STOCKS
Gold stocks outperforming gold. (01 January 2025)

Silver outperforms silver stocks. (13 December 2024). Looking overbought, I expect silver stocks to outperform silver in the relatively near future. It looks like stocks are about to outperform.

GOLD AND SILVER
Silver to Gold Ratio
Gold outperforming Silver. (Signal given 14 January 2025)
Taking almost 90 silver ounces to buy one gold ounce reflects, from an historical point of view, a ratio far out of kilter with the norm. One would expect a ratio closer to availability in the ground around to eight to one. Either the gold price falls relative to silver or the silver price rises relative to gold. Of course other factors enter the equation.

GOLD TO USD
Gold outperforms the USD, (10 January 2025).
