So President Trump got a rate cut, not nearly as much as he would like.
Even this ‘small’ decrease in the rate will have devastating effects on the value of the Dollar and the inflationary effects on the economy. The ‘saving grace’ regarding inflation is that the economy is slowing faster than inflation is rising. This slowing economy makes putting prices up much more difficult and squeezes margins for manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers.
Stagflation, as I have mentioned before, is a most unpleasant experience for all concerned.
In my opinion, rates should be increasing, not decreasing. This would strengthen the Dollar, reduce inflation, and reduce misallocation of funds. The downside of this is also an increase in the slowing of the economy, as money is made more expensive.
The price of money, which is what the interest rate sets, should probably be left to the free market; however, its control is far too appealing to politicians, believing they can control the outcomes better than the system.
