Gold has had a really nice run over the past eighteen months. I believe that this has been allowed in the same way that silver has been controlled and held back.
Many reasons have been given for the gold run.
- Inflation
- FED not cutting interest rates
- Hedge against currency devaluation
- Central banks aggressive buying of gold
- De dollarization
- Geopolitical instability
- Global uncertainty
- Weak dollar
- Anticipation of future rate cuts
- Momentum trading
- Institutional investors and hedge fund buying
- Fear of global recession
Many of the above are valid and it excites me to see more realistic pricing of Gold. I think it still has a long way to go to represent true value. Then why has Silver not followed suit?
- Silver is no longer a monetary asset
- Silver is not a reserve asset
- Silver is not a financial hedge
- Silver price is influenced by industrial demand
- Weak global manufacturing
- Central banks do not buy silver (some do)
- Investment funds favor gold
- Crypto is replacing silver
- Green energy has not consumed as much silver as anticipated
- Silver is too volatile and less liquid than gold
- Retail investors that bought silver are no longer in the market
Do I believe these answers? Some have validity. When I look at the shortages in the silver markets and delays in delivery, I have grave reservations about their validity. Adam Smith in Wealth of Nations spoke of the guiding hand of the markets. I have a feeling that the guiding hand is being guided in both the gold and silver markets.
All signals point to a rapid appreciation in silver prices in the relatively near future.

The above chart shows the gold price (red and black candles), against the silver price, (grey line), over the past twenty years. We see silver lagging significantly now.

This chart from Graddhy shows silver miners against gold miners. We see how silver mines have underperformed gold miners for the past number of years. It would appear that the trend is reversing.

GOLD AND SILVER
Silver to Gold Ratio
Silver outperforming Gold. (Signal given 22 April 2025) When we think that silver is coming out of the ground at about 8:1 and the Gold:Silver ratio is 98.01, something is way out of kilter. Silver is an astounding buy at this time or gold is in for an extremely heavy correction.

USD outperforms Gold, (28 April 2025).
