Constantly on my screen in front of me, I have the weekly chart of gold and silver. The daily chart tends to create anxiety as the moves appear large relative to the previous day’s move. The monthly chart is great for longer term trades but does not really give sufficient information on a daily basis.
In my opinion, the probability of a major decline in prices of either of the metals at this time is minimal, considering the current state of affairs, both economically and militarily.
Continued consolidation of gold and a possible consolidation of silver at these levels is not out of the question.
This morning we have a push higher. If the price can close tomorrow above $3,360.00 we have a good chance of a push higher going forward.
My fear, as always, is to go to sleep on Friday night, have a major event or reshuffle over the weekend and have prices vastly higher on Monday morning. The way I deal with this is incremental purchases or dollar cost averaging.

Having a look at the charts referred to above, I see gold consolidating between $3,200.00 and $3,350.00. This has been the case for the previous eight weeks. This is really positive considering the run from $2,600.00 to $3,500.00 in the previous 20 weeks.
I like that it has not closed below $3,200.00 and has attempted to penetrate $3,359 on three occasions, unsuccessfully.
Should it successfully penetrate $3,359.00 and stay above that level, we have the beginnings of the next run to $3,869.00 and subsequently $4,000.00. If it fails, we could see $2,870.00.

The silver weekly chart was extremely exciting last week as the price easily broke through the long awaited $35.00 mark, then powered on to touch $36.32.
This week the movement has been much less spectacular with the price going up to $36.88 and then pulling back to lower levels at $36.17 as I write. If the price can hold above $35.00 on a pull back then $37.62 would be the next target with $40.00 as a possibility.
Which metal is better to hold at this time? It depends on what one’s objective is.
For longer term compact wealth preservation, I feel that gold is a better option. For better profit potential and a more easily tradeable asset I feel that silver works better. A mix would serve both purposes as a reasonable strategy.
